Being the Bigger Person

Our language contains clues and information about who we are, and what we are. We use phrases like feeling blue, green with envy, yellow-bellied coward, in the pink, and…why don’t you be the bigger person?

Why do we use these terms and where did they come from? I suspect that they are left over from another time, when we were a little less science based and more feeling based and knew on some level, we are made up of color, light and energy. When we see colors undulating within our minds eye, what we are viewing is our own chakra system. Whether you are aware of your energy system or not you do indeed have one. All things are made up of energy – we can see and feel some because the energy is denser. However just because you can’t see it – does not mean it does not exist. Our light body is our spirit, that which most cannot see. It is our feeling center. It is what continues on after our physical body is spent – a ray of light from the creator – a spark of the divine.

So what does it mean to be the bigger person? When we meet up with opposition, most of us have one of two reactions either we shrink down and cower away feeling misunderstood and disappointed – or we battle, argue and push our views on the opposing forces. To be the bigger person is neither of these. To be the bigger person is to stay within the light and truth that is stemming from God bringing it into your life and every situation you find yourself in and that is big. I mean that in the true sense of the word, both physically and on a spiritual level. It is very interesting indeed when one puts into effect the power of God within ones self and holds the light of that knowing with grace and not using the physical body to point, push and verbalize the truth. God does not judge people in their individual expression –when separate from God we judge.

If you are wondering what I mean, or how our spirits can be physical manifestations of the divine we must first acknowledge that we are not in our bodies – our bodies are actually in us. We must not forget that, or should I say be distracted from knowing that for too long. When we place our attention on something it usually means we ignore everything else, we begin to focus all of our energy on that some thing. Being bigger means remembering always the source of where the ability to power those thoughts is coming from.

We are not here to ignore the source giving all our attention to outside forces, or to ignore the outside world by only being spiritual, but to bring the larger loving source or God into the physical world. I continue to find fascination in the intensity and distractions that come about through human ritual around the days that are recognized and focused upon for religious reasons and also national recognition. Should we not be in remembrance of that always? The very idea that time should be set aside for God to worship God suggests that we are separate from God, and what I am trying to say, is it should be a constant knowing and feeling, not just through ritual, but through the sheer exultation of knowing and feeling God always. But you must be made aware that would mean loving ourselves, and I am not sure most are ready to do that. That is what being bigger means to me. We are part of God not bigger than God and getting smaller is a masquerade for which the curtain must always fall. That curtain is our human agenda, which acts like a veil of forgetting. I am no bible scholar – but some things stick in my mind when I hear them and I remember hearing that Christ was the bridegroom and we the bride and if that is so maybe the only thing keeping us from God is the veil the bride wears. To reach the place where God stands waiting we must lift the veil and allow God to look directly into our eyes. Maybe the only thing keeping us from seeing God is allowing the Godhead to look into our eyes and see God looking back.

May we all truly be thankful and allow things that need to rest come to that fruition and welcome the newness a completion brings. In a world that is suffering from many deficits – physically, monetarily and spiritually, let us follow the pattern of the sun and slow down and as the days become dimmer, may we look to our inner light and use it as a means to grow and expand so all things may become bigger and be filled with the abundance that is God.
